Summer fun in Hampton Roads
Hampton Roads is arguably one on the best places to live for a fun-filled summer. Take your pick from beaches and boardwalks, vineyard and breweries, museums and music, kid and pet friendly activities and more!
Here are some fun ways to make your Hampton Roads summer sizzle!
Rise to new heights at The Adventure Park at the Virginia Beach Aquarium
A popular destination for all ages, the Adventure Park is an aerial forest park featuring obstacles, climbs and ziplining throughout the treetops. Perfect for a day with family, friends or even special events like birthdays, corporate or teambuilding events for all ages. What’s more? During the summer the Adventure offers a set of themed evening events called the Summer Glow Series where the park is illuminated with magical, colorful lights and lasers and music! Themes range from Sports Night, Time Machine and even a Shark Week event.
Grab a blanket and some popcorn and enjoy an outdoor movie
Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Isle of Wight have historically offered summertime outdoor movie nights (be sure to check the city websites for more postings on specific locations). In Virginia Beach, Mt. Trashmore and the Oceanfront host movie nights that draw a big crowd of all ages and play movies to make the whole family smile! Also, check in with your local shopping centers for postings on outdoor movie nights. For example, Red Mill Commons and Landstown Shopping Centers in Virginia Beach offer weekly movies during the summer months.
Get your toes in the sand
Hampton Roads is home to so many waterways and beach destinations. Whether you chose to catch some rays and waves at the Virginia Beach oceanfront, adventure along the Eastern Shore, kayak along the Lynnhaven River, tour the Great Dismal Swamp or First Landing State Park, or relax on the beaches of the Chesapeake Bay. There is lots of fun to be had on the water in Hampton Roads!
Enjoy the thrills of Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in Williamsburg
Busch Gardens is a longtime favorite of Hampton Roads residents, known for exciting rides and entertainment as well as experiencing the different cuisines, animals and plant life featured throughout the park. During the summertime, be sure to also visit Busch Gardens’ next door neighbor Water Country USA. We recommend making a day or weekend of it, getting the flex ticket option that allows you to visit both parks in the same day, or the multiple-day ticket where you can visit both parks as many times over a 7-day period!
Get your groove on at a local music festival or show
Hampton Roads is home to noteworthy music venues and summertime shows—and beyond the just the 757, the entire state of Virginia is home to great festivals just a short drive from Hampton Roads! Check out local music listings here to see what’s coming up this summer.
